BJ's PM Porter® - American Craft Beer Week
Giving some focus to the darker beers during American Craft Beer Week, we have to feature BJ’s PM Porter®. Our BJ's PM Porter is a nitrogen-conditioned beer that is consistent with the British porter traditions. The porters that worked the train yards in London in the 18th century needed a smooth beer that they could enjoy after their long, hard days of work in the yards; a beer that was low in alcohol volume and very drinkable, yet comforting and flavorful all at once. A new darker style of ale filled this need and the style became known as Porter.
BJ’s PM Porter has all the qualities of a traditional, smooth porter. At the same time, ours is a little darker and stronger than British porters. With notes of caramel, molasses and chocolate flavors, this porter is sweet at the start with a pleasant roasted finish. However, don’t let the dark, rich color and sweet notes fool you; this beer is not too heavy as to weigh you down after a pint.
Our porter is a wonderful complement to our barbeque entrees and other smoky dishes as well. Try with our Chicken Bacon Ranch Deep Dish Pizza, Crispy Jalapeno Burger, or any of our Barbeque dishes. Or pair it with a chocolaty dessert like BJ’s Famous Chocolate Chunk Pizookie®. You will go home feeling pleasantly full and comforted.
We have been lucky enough to have received the Gold Medal for BJ’s PM Porter at the 2010 North American Beer Awards in the category of Brown Porters. We are extremely proud of this beer and can’t wait for you to have a pint.
