Field Day IPA™ 2014
If you follow @bjsrestaurants on Twitter, then you probably saw that on Friday August 22nd, the BJ’s Brew team headed out to the Crosby Hop Farm, LLC in beautiful Woodburn, OR to harvest all the hops for our seasonal, Field Day IPA™. We had a truly spectacular harvest. We worked from before the sunrise ‘til mid-afternoon, effectively harvesting all the hops we needed and quickly sending them to our brewery in Reno, NV to be added to this year’s batch of Field Day IPA.
We teamed up with Crosby Hop Farm for our fresh-picked hops this year primarily for the quality and reliability of their hops. After 5 generations of hop farming, the Crosby family sure knows what it takes to grow premium hops. This year, we harvested Centennial hops at the Crosby Hop Farm. This variety generally ripens earlier than most other hops so it is one of the first varieties to be harvested. The aroma profile is floral and citrusy. These hops are going to make for one incredible Field Day IPA.
We had such a great time at this harvest with the Crosby’s. The Crosby’s are as passionate about hops as BJ’s is about beer. They were fun to work with and keen on making Field Day IPA a great beer. We look forward to working with them next year for Field Day IPA. To learn more about Crosby Hop Farm LLC, visit their site here: http://crosbyhops.com/
