Listening Circles
Listening Circles provide our team members the opportunity to courageously share their personal stories and provide feedback to the Company on how we can drive intentional, meaningful change to improve our team member experience for all.
Celebration and Education
IDEA promotes a variety of diversity-themed holidays that celebrate our differences, has curated a resource center for team members that supports education and awareness, and is developing a restaurant ambassador program, among other initiatives. Our IDEA steering committee focuses on sharing ideas and stories that support our mission of leveraging the power of diversity to develop exceptional leaders who reflect the amazing diversity within our communities, achieve business excellence, and create a culture of inclusion for all.
In the coming years, we envision IDEA providing support to team member-driven communities of interest or resource groups focused on specific diverse communities and their allies. We also continued to bolster our managerial leadership training, including additional coursework on creating a respectful and non-discriminatory workplace, identifying and eliminating bias, and fair and equitable hiring.
Charitable Partnerships with IDEA and WeCAN
In addition, IDEA and WeCAN, in partnership with our Foundation, focus on charitable and volunteer efforts that support diversity and inclusion, including Girls Inc., Special Olympics, the Alzheimer’s Association, and a variety of children’s and educational charities. In 2020, we pledged to make annual contributions to organizations that support efforts to end systemic injustice for the next five years – starting with a donation from our Foundation of $30,000 to the Equal Justice Initiative on behalf of BJ’s Restaurants’ team members.
